Sea Trials to Be Conducted at Launch Port

A new regulation is being implemented that affects the maritime industry. According to this, sea trials of completed vessels will be conducted at the port where the ship is launched, except in cases of force majeure. This practice aims to make trial processes more transparent and controllable.

The new rule also imposes a significant responsibility on ship owners. They will be required to notify the relevant port authority of the estimated launch date within a reasonable time in advance. This will enable port authorities to plan trials more effectively and take necessary precautions without disrupting maritime traffic.

The implementation is expected to increase coordination between shipyards and ship owners. Especially in areas with intense shipbuilding activity, such as the Tuzla shipyards region, concentrating trials at a specific port area could positively impact operational efficiency.

Cases falling under force majeure will be handled separately. Port authorities will be authorized to determine what constitutes such exceptions and how they should be documented. Industry representatives will closely monitor how the regulation translates into practice.
