Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu participated in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) 34th General Assembly held in London, sharing the Turkish maritime sector's vision with the global public.

Delivering critical messages regarding the industry at the General Assembly, Minister Uraloğlu stated that Turkey strongly supports the strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions adopted by the IMO in 2023. However, Uraloğlu emphasized that instead of regional measures, global solutions determined under the IMO framework must be implemented to achieve these goals.

"Fair Approach Essential in Green Transition" Reminding that the maritime sector remains the backbone of the global economy, Uraloğlu highlighted that geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions have extended routes, thereby increasing costs and carbon footprints. He expressed the need for a fair and inclusive technical cooperation mechanism in green transition and digitalization processes, one that also considers the needs of developing countries.

Seafarers and Visa Issues on the Agenda Touching upon the key role of seafarers in global trade, Uraloğlu drew attention to the visa difficulties experienced particularly during embarkation processes. Stating that Turkey is ready to share its knowledge and experience with other member states through technical cooperation, the Minister also requested support for Turkey's Council membership.

Within the scope of his contacts in London, Uraloğlu held bilateral meetings with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure Robert Tieman, and Georgian Minister of Economy Mariam Kvrivishvili to discuss strategic partnerships in the maritime sector.
