Union Maritime Orders Nine New Vessels

UK-based shipowner Union Maritime has placed an order for nine new vessels, covering Newcastlemax and Handysize bulk carriers as well as chemical and product tankers. The move is seen as part of the company's strategy to strengthen its presence across different shipping segments.

The newbuilding program reflects a diversified approach to meet demand in both the dry bulk and tanker markets. Newcastlemax vessels offer efficiency in large-volume cargo transport, while Handysize ships provide greater operational flexibility. The chemical and product tankers will cater to transportation needs in the refinery and petrochemical sectors.

The shipyards where the order will be placed and delivery dates have not yet been disclosed. However, industry sources suggest that such multi-vessel orders are typically placed with major Asian yards, with deliveries expected to be completed in the 2026-2027 period.

Union Maritime's investment appears aligned with signs of recovery in global seaborne trade and the need for fleet renewal. The company is reportedly aiming to add modern tonnage compliant with new environmental regulations to its fleet while expanding its current operations.
