Founded in 1972 in Gebze, Sedef Shipyard relocated to the Tuzla Shipyards Region in 1990. Having completed over 200 successful projects since its inception, the shipyard has been operating under Turkon Holding, owned by the Kalkavan family—one of Turkey’s most established maritime families—since 2000. With roots tracing back to 1954 when the Kalkavan family ventured into ship management, Turkon Holding has brought two pioneering brands to Turkish maritime: Turkon Line in container shipping and Sedef Shipyard in shipbuilding. Spanning a total of 270,000 m²—including 194,000 m² in Tuzla (51,000 m² enclosed) and 76,000 m² in Orhanlı (12,000 m² enclosed)—Sedef is Turkey’s largest private shipyard in terms of area and capacity.
Boasting an annual construction capacity of 600,000 DWT (capesize), Sedef Shipyard hosts one of Turkey’s largest dry docks, suitable for building vessels up to 180,000 DWT, with a lifting capacity of 1,050 tons on the dock and 500 tons at the quay. Committed to eco-friendly practices, it features Turkey’s largest environmentally conscious enclosed paint halls. Following its integration into Turkon Holding, investments exceeding $250 million in technology and know-how have transformed Sedef into one of Europe’s most modern shipyards. Employing over 2,000 people, it excels in military and commercial shipbuilding, ship conversion projects, specialized steel constructions, and industrial projects, leveraging nearly 50 years of expertise.
