Çeliktrans Shipyard was founded in 1958 on the European side of the Bosphorus as a shipbuilding facility with slipways, a rarity among Turkish private shipyards at the time, establishing it as an industry leader. Since its inception, the shipyard has built and delivered 63 diverse ships and tugboats, while providing numerous vessels with services such as major overhauls, main propulsion repairs, re-engining, steel plate replacements, and electrical system refurbishments. Relocating from the Bosphorus to Tuzla in 1984 due to a government policy consolidating shipyards into an industrial zone, Çeliktrans was acquired by its current shareholders in 1992, ushering in extensive modernization and investment efforts.
In recent years, the shipyard has shifted focus to constructing new vessels for international shipowners. Over the past two decades, it delivered two multi-purpose trawlers (2000/2001), a 5200 dwt ice-class container ship (2001), and a 2800 dwt IMO II ice-class chemical tanker (2004) to the Netherlands. During the same period, it supplied Turkish owners with three mooring boats and one pilot boat, followed by five 1800-passenger ferries to İDO (Istanbul’s municipal transport company) and two product tankers to Arkas Shipping between 2006-2011. Adapting to Norway’s new regulations in 2011, Çeliktrans specialized in fishing vessels, successfully delivering them to northern countries.
